1. I have anxiety attacks about the dentist, i wont even let the hygentist do a cleaning. Anyways I went today and got my xrays done and they suggested that i extract all my top teeth (i still have my wisdom teeth too), which I agree with, id rather just do it and get it over with. But my questions are this
Since i have anxiety attacks what are my options, i mean this dentist will not even prescribe vicodin. Can I get all the top pulled at once ? How long does it take? I have about 5 of 6 busted off at the gum so i know thats probably going to be more then just an easy extraction, but if they would just do a sedation and local antestesia, id do it, i just dont know if can go through it and if i dont do it soon, im afraid this is going to effect my OVERALL Health. What do you guys think? I really need advice. Should i visit my dr for sedation medicine if the dentist WONT do it?
Teeth Extractions for a Denture?
I don't blame you about the teeth cleaning! That does hurt! I have dentures on top and my dentist pulled 8 teeth in about 15 minutes. I was fortunante that he knew what he was doing!! It went so fast and the end result really made that little time worth it because now I am not afraid to smile anymore :)
Reply:Dentists are really no pain now days and they will probably take so many at a time and they give you laughing gas. I use to not like to go now I go and don't have them give me anything for pain.
Reply:HELLO,
CONSIDERING YOUR ANXIETY AND THAT THERE WILL BE DRILLING INVOLVED TO GET OUT THOSE TEETH BELOW THE GUM LINE, I SERIOUSLY SUGGEST SEDATION DENTISTRY.
YOU HAVE AN INJECTION AND SLEEP THROUGH THE WHOLE THING, AND THEN WAKE UP AFTER THE TEETH ARE REMOVED.
I ALSO RECOMMEND AN IMMEDIATE UPPER DENTURE SO YOU DON'T LEAVE THE OFFICE W/O ANY TEETH.
THE IMMEDIATE ALLOWS FOR FASTER HEALING AS WELL.
YOU HAVE TO DISCUSS THIS AHEAD OF TIME W/TH DENTIST. GOOD LUCK ;-).
Reply:I would recommend going to an oral surgeon for the extractions. The can do IV Sedation there. Then they can do what is called an immediate denture which is placed right after the extractions. You will have to go to your regular dentist for impressions for the denture, but once it is ready you can get all your top teeth out at once %26amp; get an immediate denture placed in the same day. However, the next day after the extractions you will have to go to your regular dentist for a post op check for a denture adjustment. It will take several visits to your dentist before the denture fits right. You are correct about the infection in your teeth affecting your overall health. Good luck =)
Reply:dentist will numb you with a shot or laughing gas.
its happened to my when i had a root canal when i was in forth grade.when i was going through steps of getting my braces i had to get 4 teeth pulled cause my teeth were crowded don't worry to much with the laughing gas i didn't even remember or feel pain. with the shoot i was numb but felt the pressure really bad i still cryed and the funny thing was when they yanked out the tooth with a final yank i didnt realize it was gone.
everydentist works different good luck

Reply:You need to do what you are comfortable with. You aren't comfortable with having maintenance appointments (cleanings) so you should go with the option of removal. Consult first with the dental office to see if they provide any anxiety relief. If they do not, then ask them for a referral to a clinic (or specialist like an Oral Surgeon) that does. It is not suggested to take medication before a surgery (which the extractions are) without the consent of the treating dentist.
It could take a while for the procedure to be done, but it is difficult to tell without seeing the radiographs.
Overall health can be greatly impacted by mouth infections, and they can get downright deadly, so it is important to seek treatment immediately. Best of luck with all your endeavors.
