I need to go into hospital to have it done, because apparently dentists dont do it anymore (UK).
Im really scared, mainly about the pain.
And ive been prone to panic attacks.
How bad is the pain?
Ive read you can go under general anaesthetic, but i really dont want to do that.
Normally at the dentist when having filling etc under local anaesthetic i can still feel what he's doing
I have an impacted wisdom tooth, and i need to have it removed.?
the dentist can't do that procedure anymore because there are too many complications that can happen. (my mother had her jaw broken when her dentist did that).
Tell the doctor that you feel them when they do fillings. I did and the dentist gave me a different medicine. But definitely go for the general anesthetic (sorry spelling different in US) I know you don't want to do that but you will less traumatized by the removal than if you have the local. You will have pain but it will be much less than having to be awake while they are operating on your jaw. Think of it this way the pain will be over and if you left it alone it will hurt for years.
Reply:The anaesthetics they use in the hospital are far stronger and work quicker than the ones the dentist use. The worst part is the waiting around. They are really good in our local dental hospital. Tell them how scared you are and they may give you a sedative to relax you.
Reply:Don't be scared. While it can be painful after the procedure and the healing, you can get through it. They should give u codine or something similar for pain. The pain varies with people. Some feel pain for a week or two some only for a couple of days. Just be positive and don't think about the pain. Think of the days when your teeth will feel better!
Reply:Please don't be afraid of having anaesthesia, especially in a hospital setting. Hopefully you will have all of your potentially problematic wisdom teeth removed at the same time, this way you only have to go through it once!
Reply:at 21 i did take them off, pain or not ,today at 60 i have very good teeth, beacouse of it.
