Dental anesthesia?

I had my tooth fixed and since there was a big cavity, under my old filling, the dentist gave me around 10 shots of local anesthesia. The day after, my gum is still feeling kind of numb and hurtful.

My question is, is it normal to have so much anesthesia, what are the side effects? Thanks for your help.

Dental anesthesia?
yes
Reply:the number of shots of local anesthesia depends on your weight and the it is calculated per KG ...and some times it is normal to use till 10 shots ... but i doubt if he had used all of the anesthetic solution each time ... some times due to wrong anesthesia technic or becasue of history of addiction or heavy smoking in patient there is need for more shots ... and many many other reasons ....
Reply:Your dentist may have poked the needle into your mouth about 10 times, but he didn't use 10 carpules of anesthetic. I'm a dental assistant and I know firsthand that dentists will reposition the needle in different places and most times only use half of a caruple at most.

How much anesthetic used depends on your weight and pain tolerance.

The side effects are some soreness where the needle was for maybe a day or two at most. The numbness can last a day or two also....but it'll go away!
Reply:You just stay numb %26amp; sore longer but if there is infection in the area this is not that uncommon!! Doc W
