Do you know of any good dentists who specialise in Cleft Pallets?

My Mum was born with a cleft pallet and Hare Lip. She had extensive surgery when she was young for the Hare Lip and still continues to receive treatment for her cleft pallet. At the moment she has all her dentistry done at the local Dentistry Hospital but she is often given student dentists and is often used as a case study which she finds very uncomfortable. I am trying to locate Dentists in the UK (South West preferably) who specialise or who have some experience with patients with cleft pallets. Does anyone know of any or know where i can search??

my daughter had a cleft palate and received excellent orthodontic treatment from solihull hospital. She always saw the same dentist and I had never been asked for students to be present while she received any treatment for cleft palate or dental work.

Although I was asked if her x-rays could be used for medical research. You could ask your own dentist to recommend a good orthodondic surgeon that your mom could be refered to as dental hospitals tend to be training hospitals.
Reply:Most dentists would use her as a case study for students my son had a cleft palate %26amp; they did the same thing w/ him as a baby no matter what dr I took him to. I was not big on my kid being used as a guinea pig but there was nothing I can do as most hospitals %26amp; clinics are teaching students.
Reply:I think unless you go to a private dentist your mum will be used as some 'case study', which is disgusting, I think. Maybe once, yes but throughout her whole life is a bit like as if she was some freak show. I would complain about it. If you can afford private dentistry then it may be worth the visit. I know some professional, discreet dentists (private), although visiting them would involve a little trip abroad but the dental treatment costs a lot less than private dental treatment in the UK so perhaps you could look into that. If you'd like more info then please contact me. Good luck!
Reply:My daughter is 1 1/2 years old born with a cleft lip and palate..We live in the U.S so I can't help you..It really is amazing how common it is..As far as the case study goes, thank her for us..We'd do anything for the cause..Even if she feels uncomfortable, she is helping so many of us with children with clefts..
