What does this mean? Having trouble getting numb!?

Last yr was the 1st time this happened, but it's happened 4x since then.

The 1st was for outpatient toe surgery. The dr injected local anesthesia into what she said was the main nerve for my toe. After 20 mins I was not numb, but she insisted I was and started. I was screaming in pain. Turns out the 1 side of my toe was numb, but the other wasn't, which happened to be the 1 that was getting the procedure. Dr said I have an 'anomole' nerve.

Then, I had a major filling done. Same scenario. No matter how long the dentist waited, I was not numb. Unfortunately he also didn't believe me, and started, and when I screamed he gave me more injections.

I changed dentists, and had the SAME thing happen again.

Last week (this makes me shiver) I had a ROOT CANAL without getting numb, and again was screaming/crying in pain. I even told the dentist the whole story beforehand, but she just waited longer for it to kick in, when in fact I needed more shots.

What does this mean? Having trouble getting numb!?
Ever since I was in my teens I had a very hard time getting numb for any dentist procedure and I DO know the pain of having a tooth drilled while not numb.

My new dentist helped me out by using the strongest numbing agent they have and also by scheduling my appointments at least 25 minutes before hand, as so they could give me the numbing agent/shot to the tooth.

So afterward I went out to read in the waiting room while I was getting numb and no more problems.

Maybe it would work for you? Good luck.
Reply:i am one that is the same way you have to make them to put you asleep if they do not refuse your visit.
Reply:You're sure you're not mildly hysterical [ phantom pain ]? Dentists check for numbness with a probe to the area they are working on and don't start until they are positive it IS numb. At least good ones do
Reply:if local does not work, go in for general anesthesia.
