Ingrown Toenail Procedure...?

I am having a procedure on my toe tomorrow to have the side of my nail removed as it is ingrown, I was wondering if anyone could tell me how much pain is involved, ive had local anaesthetic needles in my mouth at the dentist before but not on bare skin. Thanks

Ingrown Toenail Procedure...?
I've had an ingrown toenail removed from my big toe several years ago. I don't recall there being that much pain. Please do follow the strict instructions for aftercare of your toe and foot as to try to prevent infection and worse such as soaking in epsom salts and such. If you are getting the procedure done on the foot that you use to drive (if you do drive ;) it would be much safer to have someone else drive you home. I had worn open toe shows for a little while as it was healing. I may actually have my other toe on the opposite foot done as that ingrown toenail just keeps coming back too :) I do agree with the other postee Not to look while it's being done. You can if you want to, but I thought that it would seem too freaky ;)

Just fyi, the toenail that you get the ingrown removed from may grow in more brittle. I just keep it trimmed and filed. My mom had a procedure done on her toenail by another podiatrist and had the brittleness as well. She said that the vitamin/mineral supplement for hair, skin and nails helps. Perhaps it's the biotin(?) And hopefully your dr is licensed and reputable. You will be just fine. Good luck tomorrow!
Reply:Four injections around the base of the toe, and the tourniquet is painful in a restrictive way. I had to have one of my toes done twice when the nail grew back. But it's much, much better afterwards than the chronic pain of leaving it!

Don't try to look while they're doing it...
Reply:it doesnt cause much pain, mostly its discomfort and feels a little funny. and soreness after the anaesthetic wears off. the soreness usually lasts only a few days
Reply:Let me just say IT HURTS! Ya know when you accidentally tap your ingrown toe on the side of a chair? That pain times ten when they stick the needle INTO your ingrown part. But the pain goes away a few seconds later and you don't feel anything else. Better to get it done and not have anymore pain than not get it done and risk much worse pain and possibly sickness or gangrene. HAVE FUN.
Reply:i've had this done twice and toenails remoed twice also.

the injections stings a bit and soon settles. the procedure is painless as your toe should be fast asleep by then.

by that evening it'll start to throb and hurt a bot, but painkillers and anti-inflammatories should help.

getting the whole nail off is painful, but just the side? - not too bad really.

good luck!
Reply:My 12 year old son had the proceedure and was a champ. He said the initial shots hurt a little.

The very next morning he played an entire game of soccer in the rain and went back that afternoon and played 3/4 of a game.

Hope that helps

Good Luck
