Help!? I am very nervous...?

I am going tomorrow to get four teeth removed. Three are impacted molars and one is an old tooth that never got crowned. I am driving 2 hours away to get this done. Not only am i terrified of the dentist, but I have to get this all done with only a local med. Has anyone had this done before, or can give me any tips? Thanks!

Help!? I am very nervous...?
With the novicaine, you won't feel anything except a really numb face. The hardest part is not the tooth extraction, but the tireness of opening your jaw. Don't worry, it's not so bad. The worst part is afterwards... it's not very painful, but it's annoying to have to take care of it while it heals.
Reply:Take care of them afterwards, dry socket is very painful.
Reply:close you're eyes!!!(:
Reply:nothin painfull bout it
Reply:Get an x before u go there ;)
Reply:I would cancel and try to find a place that has the gas. They are hard to find now a days tho.

Reply:I would expect you to be put under anesthesia, so you will be asleep for all of it. Try to have someone come with you so they can drive you home.
Reply:I am going tomorrow for the same thing!!! Get someone to drive you! You won't be in good shape to drive home! Good luck and fill the pain meds!!! If someone drives you have them fill it while you are in the chair it will save you from haveing to go to the drug store with blood dripping from your mouth!
Reply:I would reschedule the appointment. There is no reason to put yourself through this with all the advancements we have access to today. Impacted teeth are much more extensive than just pulling a tooth. Just wouldn't do it, but that's me.

Are you sure it just a local med or are you having IV sedation.

Is there a reason you can only have a local med?

If there is no reason why you cannot have sedation I would go to another dentist. I cannot imagine having impacted wisdom teeth removed without it.

If it is IV sedation, you won't feel a thing until you wake up. You must have someone take you or they will not do the procedure.

You will wake up with gauze packing on both sides of you mouth. You will be instructed not to suck through a straw. This is very important to avoid dry sockets because this can be very painful. Change gauze as needed and take medications as prescribed. You will be sore for a couple of days but the mouth heals quickly. Good luck.
Reply:Bring your iPod. A lot of dentists offer headsets with music, but if yours doesn't, it's nice to have a distraction from the scary dental work. Usually the dentist won't mind if you relax with some music while they work.

Good luck! Dental work is awful!
Reply:Well it did happen on america's next top model once. Joanie had to get 4 teeth removed. It hurts horendously but on the second day it was completely worth it.
Reply:I had my wisdom teeth out this summer and it is not that bad!

Don't be worried. They will give you LOTS of medication and you will be very happy. :)

Make sure you have pleanty of soft foods like yogurt and smoothies and milk shakes.

And have lots of things to do like whatch movies.

Good luck!
Reply:It depends, some people have their wisdom tooth extracted without any problem, some don't. You said you are driving two hours. I strongly advise you to have someone drive you or be with you. Four teeth in one go is alot. You may sail through it but it helps if you have some support.

There's nothing to it really. Tell your dentist that you are frightened and ask him to give you anaesthetic and in that case, it's only the injection that will hurt and you won't even know when the tooth is out.

Good luck,
Reply:take medicine as directed and before the pain starts
Reply:I had 4 wisdom teeth and 4 regular teeth removed all at once.

It was very discomforting, involved lots of swallowing blood for days afterwards, and involved me being knocked out.

It was almost 20 years ago though....

Its not something you need to worry about too much. If they release you to drive home, you should be good. If they say you need a driver, expect a few days of "discomfort" but even back when i had mine done i would rate it as " extreem discomfort"

You should be fine, you might want to stop and get chicken broth to eat for a few days afterwards... almost all solid foods made my mouth bleed.. had to make a special trip to get broth. (ask your dentist what you can eat)
Reply:I would reschedule the appointment. That would be so much pain and especailly since you are by yourself and 2 hours away. Definatly reschedule, find someone who can drive you there as well.

Good Luck!
Reply:Most dentist use a gel that numbs area somewhat before then put needle in to num area.. it not really that bad..

I had all my top teeth removed about 8 at 1 time done with local, the worst part was the needle in roof of my mouth.. but 1 thing i can tell you in my case after they were out i felt 100% better.. I was living in pain for along time.. i really felt better even after the meds wear off then i had in years..
Reply:Ask for nitrous oxide. That's laughing gas for your info. If that other dentist refuses to give you that, then he is NOT NOT NOT a good dentist and has absolutely no empathy left in him for his own patients. Dental students do procedures on their own classmates in school, so.. you can bet your butt that they have a truckload of empathy because they gotta face those same people in class the next day, and those 'patients' will reverse roles! The younger your dentist, the BETTER. Older ones have lost their empathy and have become greedy and cold. Stick to your usual dentist since he did want to give you more than just shots.
