If so, do you have drug insensitivities to morphine, opiate pain killers (percocet, oxycodone, vicoden, etc.) or Lidocaine local anesthetic (like at the dentist's office)?
I have aspergers and morphine doesn't relieve pain and Lidocane doesn't numb me. I was wondering if anyone else with aspergers has this problem.
Asperger's Syndrome: Do you have it?
No, but when I was little I wasn't able to tolerate sulfur based medicene.
Reply:I have Kanner Syndrome, but I have noticed an insensitivity to anesthetics.. I will wait for other answers.
Reply:Hmmm,,,wow this is interesting. My friend who has been diagnosed as an Aspie is completely unaffected by caffeine..even in pill form.He also seems to have a super high tolerance for just about everything. It's like regular meds don't work so well on him. Does anyone else here have an insensitivity to caffeine?
Reply:i have aspergers and dont have any drug insensitivities
Reply:That's interesting! I've never used anything like morphine or an opiate, but Lidocaine's never worked on me - when I had to get a tooth extracted when I was young, they had to use the gas. I haven't noticed any insensitivities to other medications, though.
Reply:I think people with AS do have differences in the way they perceive pain and I guess this would mean there are differences in the way their pain is blocked. Sometimes it seems Aspies don't feel pain until it gets really bad and then it is awful. Both my husband and daughter have AS and this has been the case with them. It must have something to do with the way the AS brain is wired. Pain meds just don't work the same way for them. Sleep meds, caffeine, and pain meds affect them differently. It is important to find what works for you and announce it to everyone when you have medical procedures. We all have sensitivities so this is not a strange thing to do.
