I really hate the dentist, the last time I went I had to get a filling done and the dentist said I had more that needed doing and I should come back soon. The thing is the pain I went through last time was unbearable I nearly passed out. I feel now that my teeth are getting worse, I do brush every day, twice to keep them good. But I do not want to go through another filling and the local anesthetic, the one when the numb you? Does not really work on me. Can you get fillings done when they put you to sleep?
I hate the dentist?
have sedation dentistry done. i used to be afraid of the dentist, but after having that, i no longer have fear. it really is easy. you take a pill, and you have no recollection of the procedure they are doing, but you are conscious the whole time. it is worth the money. i had about 7 visits worth of work done in 3 hours with sedation dentistry. it is a growing practice by dentists so i would look into it. highly recommended!
Reply:my DUMBO dentist is a dumbo im 11 and he called me a baby cuz hes a $%#*^%%26amp; no offence but UGh!!!!!!!! i want to barf on his and rip his head off but... he was good, try laughing gass! hahaaaa it works..ahaa Report It
Reply:Yes! I would pick a new dentist, too!
Reply:Go to a different dentist. With modern techniques, there's no excuse for this sort of pain regarding fillings.
A lot of dentists "are brutal, they're in it for the money, and will recommend all sorts of work that doesn't be done," to quote what a friend of mine once said.
Reply:Either you don't have a good dentist, or you're not communicating well. You need to let the dentist know that you had a lot of pain. Most modern dental practices can be done pretty painlessly these days.
Brushing after every meal and flossing twice a day will help maintain, but you do need professional cleanings at least twice a year.
Reply:Yeh you can ask to be referred to hospital dentist where you can be put to sleep.
I know how you feel i hate dentists have done since i was a kid and had to get a brace. It takes me months to get the courage to go.
Good luck!
Reply:you should tell the dentist that you are in pain! he should also check before "drilling" that you do not feel too much! I suffer from the same problem but last time I went to a new dentist she gave me the double amount of anesthetics and she verified that I was not feeling too much.
Reply:i think they can put you to sleep for extractions. but you really should try going to the dentist before the pain starts. i waited and waited for the pain to go away the last time i had toothache and it only got worse. i ended up having to get the tooth virtually dug out my mouth because it was so badly broken.in all i had 4 extractions in 2 weeks. i never want to go through that again!
Reply:aim the biggest coward u will ever meet. aim so scared of the dentist i have night mares weeks before AM due for my check ups help lol
Reply:So do I but to have a nice smile he is the man and he knows it that's why they all ways hurt us so much hahahaha
Reply:well I have the same problem I hate the denist and I've asked to get fillings done when I'm asleep and they said they only do that if your having surgery.
I'm sorry I don't think they can put you asleep.
you also have a different dentist so ask them.
Reply:DONT DO WHAT I DID
I hate the dentist and kept always putting off work until the pain was so bad I couldn't bear it.
Not only did I go through needless agony leading up to surgery but I have also lost a lot of teeth because of it.
Explain to the dentist that you are nervous as most dentists are really sympathetic now.
Psychologically speaking; the more you think of the dentist and don't go the more you will be afraid.
You are reaffirming that fear and strengthening it everytime you worry.
Conversely, the more oyu go to the dentist, the less you will fear it each time.
This is not just book learned, I really feared the dentist and it is no joke.
It doesn't hurt, the injection hurts but then all the pain is gone.
Please go before you end up toothless
Reply:Ask your Dentist for a larger dose of the Novocain, you shouldn't have gone through all that bollocks is this day and age.
Reply:I am also terrifed of the dentist, even if it is just for a check-up my mum has to come and hold my hand (I'm 16). Let your dentist know how you feel about the situation as they will be able to deal with it. Good Luck.
Reply:yes call and find out which dentists will put you to sleep
Reply:Yes you can be put to sleep to have fillings done!! If you are really nervous explain to your dentist how you feel or find one that is sympathetic towards nervous patients and get the work done!! Look at this way, if you don't go to the dentist the pain you will get from toothache as a result of cavities exposing your nerves will be far worse and more chronic than the quick pain and discomfort you will receive from the dentist!
Reply:nope and u think thats bad my daDS ONE
Reply:no they don't put you to sleep anymore. no one likes the dentist but its something you have to go to to have good teeth.
Reply:Asky yourself this question was I the best patient? I work in a dentla office so that bombs pretty big. I'm not hear to jump all over you though the thing you must remember is that dentists don't read minds they don't know what your think if something is bothering you then tell them. You're the one in control after all not them. They can put you to sleep but it seems like the pain left you with a little fear which is conmpletely normal in fact that's how alot of them start. Why be put to sleep when you can face your fear. try bringing music or something that relaxes you. remeber though it's very important to relax as a dental assistant I can't stress that enough. It's okay to set up a signal plan this is where you can raise your hand (however you want to do it) and the dentist will stop and give you time to catch yourself. Don't pass out that's just in your head it's not nearly as half as bad as you think it is. If your dentist doesn't seem to be working for you then try another you have that power, but give him/her a chance first after you start to relax by doing this is shows that you trust them which is good. If your tense and not trusting your dentist believe it or not then it makes them tense too (I work iwth them so I know) with you both relaxed everything should go good. Talk to them about how you felt last time tell them that your anesthetic didn't work that well believe it or not somethings are just going to hurt and somethings that you felt last time hurted alot more because you were not relaxed. the first thing they teach you in dental school is to relax and then face your fears head on.
Good luck with your next appt. remember state how you feel and relax both very important. If you wnat more info just email me at Learyfreena@Yahoo.com I would love to know how it went and if you need anymore advice just let me know. My name is Stephanie by the way. Best wishes to you.
Reply:Hi I'm a dental nurse and I hate having my teeth done as much as the next person, especially as I know what they are doing!! But if you explain to your dentist that you petrified, he can refer you to the hospital to have any work done under sedation or in the extreme a general anaesthetic. There are other options that are available now, you can actually have acupuncture to relieve the pain while you are being treated. Personally though, if I were as scared as you I would get referred. Please get it sorted though because any problems you have will only get worse and cause other complications. Good luck.
