Dentist called. Wants to send me to a root canal specialist.?

I am the guy having pain under a temporary bridge. He tried to desensitize the tooth 3 days ago. I still can't chew on it and he says I might need a rootcanal on molar before fixed bridge is placed. Then he calls and says I should see a specialist. Should I get the root canal? Its going to cost a fortune. Also, is sedation possible? This

tooth did not respond to local anesthetics and I fear the pain greatly. After canal, regular dentist says he will make new temp bridge and order another perm one. This has been a year of living hell. Please offer opinions Thanks

The specialist may be the best seeing as you have dealt with this pain for a year with your current dentist. Doesnt hurt to get a second opinion.
Reply:i had 4 done last year and all but one has had to be removed ...i went to the best dentist and it cost me a fortune ....i really think they see the $$$$$$...in a lot of cases
Reply:Get the root canal dun.
Reply:If you've had an infection or absess, the nerve in your tooth may not respond to anaesthetic. You just have to feel the fear and do it anyway, I'm afraid.

I had it, and it was awful, but it's done now and hasn't bothered me at all since. Good luck!
Reply:whats a root canal
Reply:You can always get a second opinion. the problem is that teeth dont grow back - if those nerves are damaged, root canal may the only way to go to get rid of the infections.... goo dluck!

PS you just gave me the incentive to do what I have been putting off for ages - phone the denstist. I out off one filling for so long that I had to have root canal and a crown - very expensive business.... :) THanks!
Reply:I had 3 root canals done before they realized I was alergic to the treatment they used, and even after trying another method of treatment I still had problems. I have lost 3 teeth to root canals, and refuse to allow any dentist to do any more. The cost??? you need plenty of money for this kind of treatment.
