I have a massive fear of dentists, i have to have 2 wisdom teeth out. with local anaesthetic.?

I am really scared of dentists. I hate them, and am petrified of having these teeth out.

My dentist has told me,that i won't feel anything. But i am really scared of the injections because they really sting, and make me feel sick.

Can i take somethiing to relax me?

Also can my mum come in with me, to hold my hand?

I live in England. Any advice please post.

I'm scared of dentists too. I hate them. Don't worry. my dentist puts on some numbing gel on my gums before shes gives me novacaine it helps a little, but the shot lasts a few seconds. it's better to be numb then to feel the whole thing. Just breath and try to stay calm. you wont feel anything after he numbs you. I'm sure the dentist wont have a problem if your mom comes in with you just tell the dentist that you want her next to you.

Good Luck
Reply:I'm sure they'll let your mother be there with you.

Ask your dentist for a lot of topical anesthetic before you get the shot. (I know what you mean; I hate getting the shot more than any other part of dental work.)

Just keep reminding yourself that the shot only lasts a few seconds, and take really deep breaths while you're getting it.
Reply:try taking tylenol pm, it will relax you. and also try getting eft or being hypnotized. they actually work.

this is what eft is:

Reply:If you ask the dentist he will give you an 800mg Ibuprofen or vicoden in the office before you have to go in. I'm really scared of the dentist too and that really helps for me. It just relaxes you so you don't worry so much. The shots only sting for a second. I've told myself what's worst...one day of a little pain or years of horrible pain from teeth problems.

One more thing...tell the dentist, if he doesn't already know...to wiggle your lip when giving you the shot. I don't know how it works but if you feel your lip moving you can't feel the shot. Most dentists I go to do that.
Reply:I had three of them pulled out.

During the extraction, you really ARE NOT going to feel anything.

The dentist will give you enough injections that you can literaly get punched repeatadely and you wont feel a thing.

What I do suggest you do however, if get some pain killers for after the injections wear off. For some people, it hurts, and for others, not that much.

Like I said, DO NOT worry during. You can ask the dentist if it's ok for your mom to be in with you, just as long as she is not in his way.

It's going to be allright.
Reply:i make it easy and just ask to be put to sleep, then when i wake it is all done... i have a huge fear of dentists, starts out with the smell in the doctors office , lol ... see if they offer what i get , to be put to sleep for the procedure, some will if offered. good luck to you . i don't recommend taking anything, that combined with what they use for the surgery might make you bleed more or don't combine well with what they give. wouldnt want you to have a bad reaction.
