HELP! Hi- I'm currently in S.Korea teaching. The problem is, I have a problem with a tooth, on my lower right.

According to local dentist (best in the area - apparently) my tooth root developed a 'cyst' as he called it - poor english, +it has spread to the next tooth when it must have burst recently.

He then prescribed me 2 days worth of meds - originally penicillin based, i said i'm allergic, and they changed the tablets (-to be taken 3 times a day). Couldnt find what they were in an online search.

One, the tablet, was blue oval, (about 1.2 cm long by 0.6cm - roughly) said Syntex on it,

... the other, a capsule, was half pale yellow half dark green, said CKD 250 on it (about regular size, 1.2cm by 0.6cm -roughly)

Now i'm not a doc but im sure a course of antibiotics should be taken for longer, right? well, 3-4 days later (now) it has swollen much more and is very painfull. I have heard of practicioners here making themselves more work to earn more money (standard).

His suggestion, was to have both teeth out and replaced with posts/caps(£500+) ..or surgery-20%chance of more problems.HELP!!

HELP! Hi- I'm currently in S.Korea teaching. The problem is, I have a problem with a tooth, on my lower right.
in your case ,if it's really a cyst as you said there are two treatment choices either to make root canal treatment to the tooth or to extract the tooth. extraction of the tooth need to be replaced but not this is the problem here

the real problem here that this condition if left untreated can progress to more seriuos condition in which it can cause a facial infection and swelling and it will need a treatment in the hospital.

so i advise you to go to any dental college in the country to recive an ideal treatment and i think it will be free.

the other problem is the way you described the tablets, as a general the tablet shape and color is not standard and differ from one company to another, and there are two names for each drug first one called generic name which is universally standard name and it will not differ from one company to another, the second name called trade name which put it the company that made the drug so in your case you have to tell us the generic name that can make any dentist all over the world know what are you talking about!!!!!

as a dentist i advise you to use (clindamycin 300 mg each 8 hours for 7 days)(this drug of choice in your case becuase you are allergic to penecillin) you can get the help from a pharmacist, but the condition will not resolve untill you treat your tooth

antibiotics is prescribed only in case of infections and it can cause harm only if used for long duration (months!!!!) but 7 days is not a problem
Reply:you need a root canal
Reply:Have you tried webmd.com?

Go there and search for anything related to your problem
Reply:If money is the problem have them out. Better than being in pain so far away from home; it does sound a root canal situation. I've had abcesses that sound just like what you have. Take the antibiotics and have it out...soon, as the infection can get into your bloodstream and cause you more problems than you have now.

Reply:you need to go to a main dental hosp if they have one in korea, then get the emergency clinic to deal with it properly. l dont belive some high street dentist do a good jod. antbiotics should be taken for 5-7 days for toothache.or you have to go back and get the antbiotics changed for a stronger dose, even before any thig can be done to this teeth.
Reply:I POSTED THIS QUESTION

Thanks for the answers so far,

Am looking on webmd now...

as for money for tooth pull-NO, the money factor is that surgery is apparently CHEAPER, i will do whatever is best - i just cant have teeth pulled if unecessary for 1.as my work requires speaking and 2.my family has a history of problems with replacement teeth and migraines to the point of sickness.

So a root canal would be the operation they meant -it seems.

would probably allow for me to keep the tooth?
