I was suppose to have my wisdoms removed last week. Which is better...General or Local anesthesia?

When i sat in the chair i experienced tachycardia (fast heart rate) my heart rate reached 161 bpm and wouldn't go down lower than 128 bpm. My dentist refused to do the work and sent me to my doctor to have my heart checked. The thought of general anesthesia kind of scares me, however, local anesthesia scares me even more...just the thought of being awake and hearing the drill.

If you're that agitated, general anesthesia sounds like a good idea. A few dentists have suggested that they can also give you relaxants (in the form of a pill, I guess something like a Xanax) to take prior to going under, so you won't even be scared of the anesthesia. Afterward you won't be as sore, either, because your muscles will be pretty mushy during the procedure.
Reply:I was knocked out when mine were removed. I recommend it.
Reply:You should let doctor decide which anesthesia. If teeth are not too difficult to pull, then local.......and BTW, don't think doctor would be using a drill to pull teeth !!!
Reply:I have had two wisdom teeth removed, one upper %26amp; one lower. Both were done under local anesthesia. It was painless!
Reply:If you are having heart related symptoms during dental procedures, somewhat common but still symptoms, this is a question you should discuss with your medical doctor and have your medical doctor discuss it with your dentist prior to any procedures.

This is not a decision you are equipped to make.
Reply:I did not have general anesthesia for my wisdom teeth (that involves having a breathing tube and is pretty extreme for wisdom teeth. I had IV sedation with local anesthetic so I was asleep and didn't feel anything or hear anything, but woke up with no problems and went home.
