I chipped my first molar and it can't be saved and I have 2 impacted wisdom teeth both on the bottom on each side. They need to come out, the one on the right side don'r bother me, the one on the left side does, it's pushing on the tooth in front of it. They are playing peek a boo with my gums. I am the biggest punk when it comes to the dentist, how do I get over these fears?? just the thought of a needle in my gums ugh...!!! and the pain after, OMG, I was wondering if Nitrous Oxide (laughing gas) is a painkiller or would I have to get that %26amp; a local anaesthetic? after the laughing gas will I still feel the shot? and when it's over can they give me a liquid painkiller like vicodin?? I'm so nervous I've been watching tooth extractions on you tube. and with my wisdome teeth they are not all they way out the gums.... I don't want my gums to be cut.... how long will I be in pain and how do the gums heal????? please help me im freaking out I have never had a tooth pulled!!!!!!!!!!
Dental Fears any dentist on here that can help or people who have had tooth extractions??? HELP!!!!!!!?
Relax! Don't get so hyped up about it! Of course getting your teeth pulled isn't fun, but its really not that bad. I had to get FOUR wisdom teeth pulled in the same day. They give you so many anesthetics that you can't even tell it happens. From my experience, I remember being put in a room, they gave me a bluish-green drink that really had hardly any effect on me, they let me watch TV for a little bit, then they gave me a shot in my arm. Probably less than a minute after that, I was gone. I woke up, my mouth was completely numb, and they told me to make sure not to move my mouth around much, because my mouh was so numb that I could bite down on my cheek or tongue without knowing, and injure myself.
For me, it took a few days for them to heal, but all that meant was sitting, relaxing and watching movies being pampered by my friends and family. They also give you plenty of painkillers so that you really can't even feel it (I received Vicodin).
Really, don't worry about it. I'm such a girl when it comes to getting shots, I've cried on several occasions when getting them, but for the one when I got my wisdom teeth out, the bluish-greenish liquid they gave me made me hardly aware that I was even getting it.
Good luck, and it will be fine, so don't freak yourself out!
=)
Reply:Look up sleep dentistry in your area painless you wont even know it happened i am scared to and that is the only way i will go no sounds of drills and pressure and stupid freesing needles just a lil anistetic and sleep!
Reply:First off watching the videos are not going to help you at all! You are anticipating the worst. While yes the pain you will go thru is somewhat overwhelming, it wont be so bad because of the medicine. They will probably give you a pill before they get you in there, they did me and my bf drove me to the dentist. They gave me somekind of gas and told me count backwards from 10. My dentist told me I didnt get past 8! I dont remember what it felt like I can tell you after all was said and done I didnt feel anything untill the drugs wore off luckily they gave me a prescription for some more medicine and I was fine. You will be fine, just put down the videos and relax. You will be fine. Good Luck!
I forgot to add make sure you stock up on jello, pudding, water, and some soups. The less you have to get out the better.
Reply:If you get real hi on the nitrous it can be funny when you are getting the injection.. Have seen it many times on kids. I used it for 20 yrs . Some would beg to come back after all there work was finished!! Doc W
Reply:I had to get all four wisdom teeth taken out and they were all impacted.Getting my wisdom taken out didnt hurt...AT ALL! They put an IV in my arm with a really heavy muscle relaxer..went to sleep...woke up in what seemed like 5 minutes later and it was done. I was a little groggy but fine. I went to my school to pick up my homework for that night. I slept most of that day and din't really eat much of anything. The next day I was fine...I went to school and was eating hotpockets and stuff like that. I didn't even have to take my pain killers. The worst part of the whole thing was changing the bloody gause...NASTY!...but still didnt hurt! hope this helps! :) goodluck!
Reply:I am a crazy brusher, but I still get cavaties, no matter what I do. Well, truthfully, I love candy, and sticky jelly beans, so I think that is a problem. Two years ago, I had a root canal FAIL, so they had to surgically extract the molar. I won't lie to you - this was so painful, that I left the dentist and just cried and cried in my truck! The problem was, the tooth was broken and they had to attack it and pull it out bit by bit in many parts. They stuffed my face with gauze and I was miserable for a couple of days. I made the mistake of trying to do situps the next day - and blood started gushing from the removed area- so PLEASE do not do anything exerting for a few days after. My friend just had to have the same thing done - and she had them put her to sleep first. This is probably what I would do too should I need to have this done again. It's sad and painful, but if you're sleeping, it would be a LOT easier.
