They shouldn't put local anesthetic on a patient rite? How can a patient feel if the final veneers are comfortable or not if he's numbed and his gum %26amp; teeth can't feel anything rite?

I'm a dentist.
You will likely not need anesthetic, either topical or injected, if your doctor prepared your teeth for the veneers properly (i.e. drilled them down no more than needed). Under normal circumstances, the amount of tooth structure that needs to be removed is quite small--about 1mm, give or take, depending on the amount of modfication to the tooth's shape that needs to be made.
If your teeth are particularly sensitive, however, you obviously may need anesthesia. Also, if your gingiva isn't healthy and bleeds a lot, local anesthetic with vasoconstrictor may be used to minimize bleeding. If blood seeps between the veneer and the tooth before the cements have cured, you may see a brownish stain under your veneer. This is a serious no-no.
As far as comfort goes, it's really not an issue. Your veneers should not come into contact with your opposing teeth during normal movements of the lower jaw. Your doctor can evaluate this whether you're numb or not.
Reply:Most likely they will give you anesthetic.
You could try it without anesthetic, but it may be too painful to bear. However, then again, it may not be.
It is difficult to feel their comfort when you are numb.. it is one of the toughest things about veneers.
You should discuss this concern with your dentist.

I have a chipped tooth which is cut my cheek i cannot find a local dentist?
Who thinks NHS dentist is having a laugh? I can handle the pain i can take pain killers what i am worried about is my children, they are fine but if i cant find a dentist soon enough i wiil have to go private. Do private dentists let you pay in instalments?

You keep trying the NHS http://www.nhs.uk/ and get that tooth fixed.
The bigger problem is that you don't really have the cash for a costly procedure.
Mexico is cheap on Dentistry but if you go there, make sure your seeing a "real" dentist...
Or you can...
Put 3 or so pounds a week in a jar that says "Dentist" on it. Make sure you can't see in the jar.
Wait until next time you need a dentist, (kids too) and open the jar!
Depending on how well you practice dental hygiene...will be how long until your next time.
Also research private dentist's in your area and ring them up. Ask what what they have available for "low income families". Many dentist's will except a payment plan or knock off a few pounds if you are "low income".

Reply:if you ring nhs direct they have emergency dentists in your area and they also have a list of nhs dentists that are taking on patients i only know this because my husband didnt have a dentist and he was in agony and i rang them hope this helps

Reply:Phone your local primary care trust for a list of your local dentists. If they are full ask to be put on a waiting list and in the meantime find a private one. I got my NHS dentist after a years wait so not too bad. Also private ones aren't always as expensive, phone around and ask for quotes. Also if it's for your family you might be able to get a family rate etc. Therefore I would suggest doing some research for the long term, and phoning NHS direct or visiting a private one for your chipped tooth. Reply:Not that I can really advise you on this, but you could actually get a nail file back there and just rub a little bit to smooth it down. Don't worry about breaking the tooth, because if the piece is so thin that you can break it with a nail file, it's going to have to come off to fix the tooth anyway. You won't do any harm
HERE's your socialized dentistry, averstar23. This poor guy can't even get a dentist to take 10 second to trim down a sharp edge. This is the kind of thing that we do every day FOR FREE - for our patients of record - and we say, "You tell US when you can come in."
This poor guy doesn't even know how to FIND a "private" dentist.
I hope everyone in the USA who reads these complaints about the NHS will realize that "National Health Care for Everyone" is NOT the way to do things.

My kids were going to a local dentist and using MEDICAID. In Sept. of this year, that dentist quit allowing?
MEDICAID and told me that several dentists would be doing the same. When I tried to find another dentist, it was VERY HARD. Are all dentists going to quit using MEDICAID AND MEDICARE?

With the price of dentistry, medicaid just doesn't pay and dentist are not excepting it. Its a shame when you bill a $100.00 filling and they give you $10.- it doesn't even pay for the assistant let alone the materials. The same with dental insurance it just has not kept up with times. For $1000.00 you used to get 3 crowns a year, now you barley get one. Go figure!

Try your local clinic. If they don't take medicaid, at least their prices will be much lower. good luck
Reply:Probably, but there is a good reason. Medicaid has made it very difficult for dentists to submit claims and the reimbursement level is a joke. If the normal charge is $75 and commercial insurance pays $65, Medicaid might pay $25.
A dentist can't even pay the staff at that rate. The only way to take these patients is to provide less to them and that's just not fair.
Also, it can take up to 3 months to get the check from Medicaid once you figure out how to fill out their claim forms! Oh, and don't forget to get a copy of that coupon every month.
We'd rather give the care away than mess with Medicaid which we do a few times a year. We have "give kids a smile" day where we do cleanings and screenings on disadvantaged kids.
I'm truly sorry we can't accept these patients, as they need care just like everybody else. We couldn't keep our doors open if we took very many of these patients.

All states have the 800 number...you call and give them your zip code and they will give you the ones closest to you that accept it. If there isn't one close to you, ask your current dentist if he offers a sliding scale for those who have no insurance, or would work out a payment scale for you...explain the situation, they may help. If not, find out if your state has a Kid Care program which is a supplement insurance to low income families.
Reply:After working for a doctors office that handled many MEDICAID and MEDICARE claims, I'll say that we saw diddly crap for Medicaid. A doctor that allows the card is rare because they just don't see a penny for it. Medicare is not this way, the money is much better.

Understand that Medicaid will reimburse the dentist about $35 for removing a tooth. It costs more to pay the staff than that. Many would GIVE away the care, but to work for Medicaid fees usually means that the doctor is paying for part of your care out of his own pocket, as he still has to meet expenses. In my little office in a rural area, it costs about $185-200 per hour to open the office. That MUST be paid before I have a penny to put in my own pocket. I can't see a Medicaid patient and do four extractions, which would take about an hour, and lose $60 of my own money. I do not mean I'd make $60 less than usual. I mean it would cost me $60 out of my pocket to make up the difference so I could pay my staff and the electric company, etc., and I'd have nothing at all for my efforts and liability.
Most communities have a public health clinic that works for Medicaid fees. Unfortunately, due to demand, you may have to wait several weeks for an appointment. Just don't fail to show up or you might be blacklisted! I've heard of that happening.

i have a bad tooth and im in soooo much pain but all the dentists i've called will not see me unless i have money-in-hand. no-one can just bill me for the services. i cant even just go to the local hospital because i cannot afford the cost of a prescription right now. can someone please help me out. remember-i need a local dentist because i dont even have a car..thank you for all SERIOUS answers

As a dentist, you have to see things from out point of view... Someone comes in with a problem who we've never seen before. The odds are (sorry to assume, but...) you only go when in pain. This may be cuz of finances but whatever. So we solve your problem and then you leave.
We bill you. The service will probably only be like 100-200 dollars. What if you don't pay the bill? We're left high and dry.
Sure, I can afford to do a few of these every now and then, but if you make a policy out of it, you'll soon be unable to pay your bills and your staff and such.
So I doubt you will find someone to bill you.
Also, I have no idea where you live; if I did I could try to help, bu you didn't say what area you were in!! Let me know and I'll see if I know anyone around that place!

Reply:I had the same problem. I found a dentist in Redford who takes payments for patients who are in pain and have no money. He does it on a case by case situation...if you can get to redford I would be happy to give you the information if you think it may be of use.

Maybe try calling the hospital, see if they know of any puclic clinics, or see if there's a dental school nearby. Otherwise, about all I could recommend is trying to pay with a credit card, then you could pay them back little by little. Sorry for the bad news, but that was my experience. Good luck!

In Australia there are free dental hospitals but the waiting list to be seen is very long especially NSW.
Tooth pain is one of the worst types of pain.
My only advice is to get the treatment and on your way past the receptionist bolt for the door and in a loud voice say "
bill me" then pay it off in instalments.
